 Doctor's Surgery - Public Meeting - 30th June 2017

A public meeting organised by Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP was held on 30 June 2017 to discuss the provision of a new doctors surgery premises in Stow-on-the-Wold and was well attended by over 150 people.

Many residents expressed concerns that more than two years have elapsed since planning permission was granted on the Tall Trees site. Andrew Eastabrook, on behalf Jenny Scarsbrook, owner of the Tall Trees site, gave a detailed update on the Tall Trees site’s progress. This was followed by John Nutbourne who has submitted a new application for a doctors surgery on the Gypsy Field.

More than a dozen members of the public questioned the two developers, including Dr Tim Healey – retired senior GP – who variously expressed the advantages and disadvantages of each site at the end of the meeting.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP proposed the following motion: That this meeting calls on Cotswold District Council to expedite the John Nutbourne application as soon as possible.’ This was passed by approximately 140 to 14 votes.

Commenting after the meeting, Mr Clifton-Brown said:

‘Although I do not favour either site, it is clear that the Tall Trees site has a number of hurdles to overcome before the doctors can sign a contract with them and building can begin.

‘In order to keep pressure to build the surgery as soon as possible I proposed the motion so that, subject to planning considerations by Cotswold District Council (CDC), there could be an alternative and that there would be a choice of sites which would hopefully result in the doctors surgery being built at one or the other of the sites.

‘I hope that the CDC will take due notice of the motion passed by an overwhelming number of people who attended the meeting in Stow-on-the-Wold’, concluded The Cotswolds MP.
